2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Pre-Safe Impulse Side

2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Pre-Safe Impulse Side

Mercedes-Benz has been a leader in automobile safety for decades, if not the last century. It is constantly striving to refine safety systems in an effort to stay ahead of the world in basically every category you can think of. Needless to say, it has done it again. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class will feature an upgrade to the Pre-Safe technology called Pre-Safe Impulse Side

Just a few months ago, we were raving about the driving assistance and smartphone features of the 2016 GLC, which hasn’t even come out yet. Already, these technologies are chopped liver because we got to peak at the new E-Class. I mean the new, new E-Class. It has a completely new list of features such as Remote Parking, Evasive Steering AssistCar-to-X Communication, and Pre-Safe Sound. If these features sound foreign, it is because they have never been seen before.

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Pre-Safe Impulse Side will make in-car adjustments as best as it can to make sure the passengers in the car are as far away from the impact spot as possible. How does it do this? With a little bit of magic, and a lot of high-speed computing.

The E-Class knows when it is going to crash before it happens. When it detects an imminent impact on the side, it will deploy an airbag on either the left or right side of your seat. The goal here is to move your body to the center of the vehicle or away from the impact area.

Side impact crashes are more deadly than any other kind because there is less material that can crumple to soften the impact. The Pre-Safe Impulse Side technology may sound startling, but it is far less startling than being t-boned by a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van.

We can expect the 2017 E-Class to be completed sometime next spring. Until then, we will just have to make do with the GLE and GLC North American Truck of the Year candidates.
