New Mercedes-Benz F-Cell GLC SUV Coming Next Year!
Fuel cell technology could be considered the predecessor to the electric car. It has actually been around for more than 10 years and provides a cheaper, faster, more effective means of travel than the electric car does. In fact, there are only two problems with fuel cell vehicles and neither of them pertain to performance, but that all might be changing with the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC Fuel Cell release date.
Five great reasons to go green in Arizona
The GLC is only in its first year as a production vehicle and it has already become one of the most popular SUVs in the brand. It has a new style, more performance, and is an affordable entry to the Mercedes-Benz lifestyle. It is already available as a gasoline drinker or a diesel sipper, but now it will also be tasting hydrogen with the 2017 Fuel Cell GLC SUV.
A fuel cell vehicle is actually a hybrid vehicle that uses a hydrogen compressor to power an electric motor. Compressed gas is more efficient and cheaper than electricity, but filling stations are still difficult to come by in most parts of the world. The 2017 GLC FCV will have a range of about 310 miles, 30 of them being entirely electric. For many though, the selling point will be that it’s only emission is water!
Mercedes-Benz has not yet released any information about a possible price but the buzz around the internet is that it will cost between $70,000 and $80,000. This is significantly more than the GLC SUV diesel or unleaded gasoline variations, but many times FCVs are sold with prepaid refills and maintenance. This means it could still be worth it, especially if you drive a lot.
Right now, it doesn’t look like the United States is going to get the first run of GLC hydrogen vehicles. If enough of them get sold in other countries, we can expect to get it faster but we aren’t getting our hopes up before 2019. What do you think about the GLC FCV? Would you drive one?
