Mercedes-Benz Active Curve System Explained

2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS Active Curve System

Have you ever seen an old car bouncing down the road on an old, interdependent, steel-based suspension? It looks like a homemade roller coaster that just landed from out of town. Although it looks funny, it is extremely dangerous and conducive to nausea. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS Active Curve System is changing the way cars drive on uneven or curving surfaces.

Basically, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS is a genius.  All four wheels work independently to make sure all four wheels are on the ground at the same time. While this is happening, front and rear stabilizers will push on either side to level the cabin with Earth’s core, comfortably keeping you in your seat even when climbing up the side of a rather large mountain. Active Curve System can also be found on the new 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE and the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Off-Road vs. Street Driving

Active Curve System isn’t something that is specific to the road or the track. It’s goal is to keep the cabin level with the ground at all times. Because of this, it works the same way, yet differently when driving on different terrains. When off-road, all four wheels might be pushed in different directions. When on the road, one side of the SUV will push up or down at the same time to keep the car sitting upright around curves.

2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS Safety

Although this sounds like a toy that helps you have fun when no one is watching, it is actually much more than that. Active Curve System prevents your GLS from rolling over in the event of a collision or a violent turn of the wheel. Active Curve System saves you money by making the car drive more efficiently. There really isn’t anything Active Curve System can’t do. If you have any questions regarding this technology, let us know in the comments below!
