$25,000 For 74 Horsepower And 96 lb-ft Of Torque? We’ll Have To Think About It.

2017 Mercedes-Maybach S550 4MATIC Sedan VS S600

Mercedes-Benz is the king of luxury. Plain and simple. It has always been this way. For 2017, the brand reiterates this status with the 2017 Mercedes-Maybach S550 4MATIC Sedan. It’s like the S600, except it has less power. Could that really be it?
Meanwhile, At AMG®
There are three significant differences between the Maybach S600 and the Maybach S550 4MATIC. These differences are engine, curb weight, and price.

Exterior Dimensions

One thing that sets Mercedes-Maybach vehicles apart from their Mercedes-Benz counterparts is the length. The Maybach variations may use the S-Class name, and they may even look the same from the outside, but the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is actually longer than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. These dimensions stay consistent between the Mercedes-Maybach S600 and the S550 4MATIC.

Engine Performance

When it comes to the S600 VS the S550 4MATIC Maybach sedans, there is a 74 horsepower, and a 96 lb-ft gap between the two. The S600 comes with a 6.0L V12 biturbo that features 523 horsepower and 612 lb-ft of torque. The Maybach S550 can only produce 449 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque with its 4.7L V8 biturbo, but it also weighs about 300 pounds less, thanks to the smaller engine.

Interior Luxury

On the inside, it is impossible to tell the difference between the two luxury sedans. They both provide every modern feature you might expect to find in a fancy car and they both have reclining back seats thanks to the extra wheelbase.

MSRP

The bottom line is that the Mercedes-Maybach S550 is $25,000 cheaper than the Mercedes-Maybach S600. With both, you are paying about $370 per horsepower, with the advantage leaning toward the S600. This means if you want the best value, the S600 is the winner, allowing you to pay $5 less per each horsepower. That being said, they both need exactly 5.0 seconds to get to 60 miles per hour and are limited at the same top speed, so you might want to save $25,000 to bring the family to the Super Bowl!
