FIRST LOOK: 2019 G-Class SUV Receives Major Interior Redesign

2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class New Cabin Design

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been an off-road legend since 1979—embarking on adventures with over 300,000 drivers that would be virtually unachievable with any other vehicle. Outwardly, the G-Class has changed very little, but in actuality, the G-Class has been constantly reinventing itself to improve what could be better and to refine its strong points.  For 2019, the G-Class is receiving the most significant redesign of its history. Newly Designed Interior

Although drastically different, the redesigned 2019 G-Class cabin upholds the model’s legacy of upscale luxury and genuine toughness. The cabin features new design details and materials while still maintaining hallmark G-Class design elements, including the grab handle on the glovebox for the front passenger, the distinctive door handles with their characteristic closing sound, and the easily visible chrome-highlighted switches for the differential locks.

Some of the off-road SUV’s new interior design elements are inspired by the exterior design, such as loudspeakers shaped like the G-Class’ iconic turn signal indicators or air vents designed to look like round headlights. Other new design elements include high-quality metal or carbon fiber trim, leather seats, and open-pore wood trim. Storage has also been completely overhauled, with numerous new storage areas for endless items including a small storage area under the armrest and water-bottle holders in the rear doors.

The G-Class also received a newly designed instrument panel. A wide-screen cockpit is created by two 12.3” displays visually blended beneath a shared glass cover. The displays offer three driver-selectable styles to choose from—Classic, Sport, and Progression. Drivers can also customize important trip and vehicle information according to their individual needs. An alternative instrument panel featuring the innovative Head-Up® Display and a central display above the center console is also available.
