Does the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A 220 feature front-wheel drive?

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A 220 Sedan is equipped with front-wheel drive to offer the best driving experience. The handling and packaging make it the perfect match for the A-Class sedan.

Why choose front-wheel drive?

This MB A-Class sedan is fitted with front-wheel drive to allow hard acceleration while eliminating any torque steer that could happen. Calibration with the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Electronic Traction System (ETS) helps to achieve this by enhancing tire bite.

Although they may sound similar these systems use different technology to avoid loss of traction for different conditions.

ETS uses its sensors to determine when one wheel is spinning faster than the others. This often occurs on wet or icy roads when a wheel loses traction and starts to spin faster while the other wheels rotate at a normal speed. The sensors will then locate which tire has lost traction and either decrease engine power or apply the brakes to gain traction in that wheel again.

ESP is simply a more advanced version of traction control. Instead of using one sensor, ESP uses multiple sensors. The sensors include an accelerometer, a steering angle sensor, wheel speed sensors, a hydraulic modulator, a control module and a yaw rate sensor. When the sensors detect and evaluate the loss of traction, they will apply the brakes to one or more wheels, and reduce engine to steer the vehicle back in the right direction.

These systems help optimize the front-wheel drive experience in the 2019 MB A 220 Sedan.
