Here at Mercedes-Benz of Arrowhead in Peoria, AZ, there’s only one thing we take more seriously than the comfort of our customers: their safety. Luckily, Mercedes-Benz does most of the heavy lifting for us, with vehicles that come with lots of great safety features and driver assistive technologies. But there’s one safety feature that’s been in cars for years that still gets overlooked today: the headrest.
Here’s how high a car headrest should be. Take a look. It could literally save you from a life of chronic pain while also making your commute more comfortable.
A headrest’s primary purpose is to prevent whiplash. To do so effectively, the top of the headrest must come up to at least the top of your ears—preferably to the top of your head—and be within two to four inches of the back of your head. This is true for both the front and rear seats. The positioning always assumes that your seatbelt is on and properly adjusted.
Automakers, like Mercedes-Benz, take the proper positioning of a headrest into account when they design their vehicles. Your headrest is designed to be most comfortable when properly positioned, so you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for safety. They go hand in hand. For those that tend to leave their headrests all the way down, you may be missing out on an important safety feature and more comfortable driving experience.
