2018 Mercedes-AMG GT Trims Explained

How many different Mercedes-AMG variations are there?

The lineup of Mercedes-AMG GT vehicles has been growing fast over the last two years, bringing the car back to the main stage after a few years of barely existing in the wake of the SLS AMG. Now, we are up to six total trim variations in the GT family.

For the most part, they all look the same. The difference between them, besides price, has to do with performance and comfort.

Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe

The GT is the base model for the legendary coupe. This means it is the most affordable trim, yet still comes with 456 horsepower and can hit 60 in just 3.9 seconds from a dead stop.

Mercedes-AMG GT S Coupe

Released at the same time as the GT for the 2016 production year, the GT S offers a little more power under the hood, bumping the GT into supercar territory with 503 horsepower.

Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster

The GT Roadster is a GT Coupe with a soft top and a wider body. It was introduced to go on sale in 2017 as a 2018 model and has 469 horsepower, 13 more than the coupe version.

Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster

In Mercedes-Benz language, the letter “C” typically indicates a small size or economical retail price. In the case of the GT C Roadster, it means more performance without the extra technologies you don’t need to go fast. With 550 horsepower and a top speed of 196 MPH, we are knocking on GT R territory.

Mercedes-AMG GT R

The GT R came into play in 2016 as a 2017 model. Labeled as a demon from the Green Hell, the GT R was developed to race on the Nurburgring. It has 577 horsepower and tops out at 198 MPH, but not before passing 60 in 3.5 seconds from zero.

Mercedes-AMG GT3

The GT3 is the only GT that is not available for public sale. That doesn’t mean you can’t buy it, but the price overshadows any other GT by about $250,000, and it will get impounded if you’re caught on the street. It is a race car that was built for the track only and actually has 6.3L V8 where the other four have 4.0L V8 engines.
