Safety Tips to Drive During the Winters

For a driver, driving during severe winter months may feel daunting. Slippery road, fog, winter storms are some of the concerns that add to the challenges of driving during the winters. These issues are not only frightening but it can be hazardous for the drivers, too. Here, in this blog by the Mercedes-Benz of Arrowhead in Peoria, AZ, we have compiled some effective winter driving tips to keep you protected on the road.

What Can You Do to Drive Safely During the Winters?

First and foremost, make a vehicle safety checklist before braving the winters with your car. It is crucial that your mechanic do an inspection of the battery, belts and charging system. When the temperature drops, the battery’s power also drops. Make sure all the lights including brake lights, headlights, emergency lights, fog lights, interior lights, are in working condition. Keep a tab on the functioning of windshield wipers and defrosters. Replace any worn wiper blades. During the winters, the car’s tire pressure also drops. Regularly monitor the tire pressure level.

During the winters, you never know when the weather will get critical and harsh. It would be wise to stock your vehicle with few essentials such as food and water supplies, jumper cables, flashlight, blankets, phone charger, and many more. Avoid risky driving and stay within the speed limit.

Before you take out your car during the wintry days, make sure that the exhaust pipe of your car is not clogged with ice or snow. Limited visibility due to fog is another big concern especially during the nights. Clean your windshields and headlights. Use your high beams only when absolutely required.

If the weather is very intense and icy-cold, avoid taking your car out. Stay indoors if you can and keep yourself safe and warm.
