How to Handle the Close-Range Braking Function in the New Mercedes-Benz EQB

A Video Guide to Close-Range Braking – Mercedes-Benz EQB

2-minute Read – The new Mercedes-Benz EQB has advanced safety features to enhance driver confidence and overall vehicle safety. One such feature is the Close-Range Braking function, which helps prevent collisions when reversing at slow speeds.

Understanding how to activate and use this function can significantly improve maneuverability and safety while driving around Peoria. This blog by our team at Mercedes-Benz of Arrowhead in Peoria, AZ, will discuss the advanced braking function in the latest Mercedes-Benz EQB.

Understanding the Close-Range Braking Function

The Close-Range Braking function in the Mercedes-Benz EQB is designed to detect pedestrians when the vehicle backs up at speeds of up to 10 km/h (approximately six mph). This intelligent safety system can automatically apply the brakes to stop the vehicle, helping prevent collisions in tight parking spaces or congested areas.

Activating Close-Range Braking

To ensure the Close-Range Braking function is active in your EQB, follow these steps:

  • Access the Multimedia System: On your vehicle’s media display, navigate to the camera and parking menu.
  • Enable the Function: Select Settings > Assistance > Parking Maneuvering Assistant to toggle the Close-Range Braking feature on or off.
  • Confirm Activation: When enabled, the system will intervene when it detects a pedestrian in the vehicle’s reversing path.

How the System Works

Once activated, the Close-Range Braking function utilizes the vehicle’s reversing camera to monitor the surrounding area. If a pedestrian or obstacle is detected while the vehicle is reversing, the system can automatically apply the brakes until the car comes to a complete stop. This feature is handy in busy urban settings or parking lots with limited visibility.

Limitations of Close-Range Braking

While the Close-Range Braking function is a valuable safety enhancement, it is essential to be aware of its limitations:

  • It does not function on inclines, so extra caution is required when reversing on slopes.
  • The system cannot intervene if towing equipment is attached to the vehicle and connected electrically.
  • It relies on the proper functioning of Active Parking Assist, the 360° camera, and the reversing camera.

Enhance Your Driving Confidence

Utilizing the Close-Range Braking function in your Mercedes-Benz EQB allows you to navigate parking spaces and tight areas with greater ease and security. At Mercedes-Benz of Arrowhead in Peoria, AZ, we’re here to help you get the most out of your vehicle’s advanced safety technologies.
