How to protect your car during monsoon season in Peoria, AZ, 2019

Monsoon season is almost here! It officially starts on the 15th of June, so for anyone new to the area and those who just need to brush up on some knowledge, here’s what you need to know when driving here in Peoria, AZ.

Keep your car safe during dangerous weather

Make sure your tires aren’t old and have the correct tread on them. The speed that your car can stop is drastically reduced with bad tires even on normal days, not to mention during poor weather. Plus, having good tires can help with the traction your vehicle gets when you drive.

If your windshield has cracks or chips, get them fixed. Not only do cracks impair your vision, but moisture can get through those cracks and into your car.

Replace your windshield wipers. It’s monsoon season, which means you’ll need to expect lots of rain hitting your windshield. Your vision will already be impaired by this rain, but bad windshield wipers can make it worse.

Clean your headlights and taillights. This not only improves your sight, but it helps other drivers see you as well. If you need to pull over, be sure to turn off your lights so other drivers don’t think you’re actually on the road.

Replace your brakes if they are bad. It isn’t uncommon to slam on the brakes when visibility is poor. But if you have bad brakes, they can fail at a dangerous time. So, it’s better to prevent this by replacing bad breaks than hoping they last til the end of monsoon season.

If you have to leave your car outside for any amount of time be sure to clean off the dirt and debris so your vehicle’s paint doesn’t scratch.

Get some seat covers and mats you can either clean easily or won’t mind tossing out after the season is over.

Don’t use car covers! Seriously, this can damage the paint of your vehicle. It’s much easier (and cheaper!) to clean the muck off your car than it is to repair the damage of lots of collected moisture drying between your car and the cover.
