As Americans, we are sometimes limited to what vehicles we get to play with. Simply put, a shooting brake is a station wagon. The term comes from 100 years ago when hunters would use a station wagon to haul themselves and their guns to the next hunting spot. More specifically, a shooting brake is a high-performance station wagon with progressive styling and doesn’t have a reverse back seat like the ones you are thinking of.
We see no reason why you couldn’t use a shooting brake to transport guns today, but we expect it is better used for groceries or wooden planks. It could also be a good place to sleep for a night but we are getting ahead of ourselves considering it won’t be available in the United States Mercedes-Benz lineup anytime soon.
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake is one of those cars that America will probably never see. Because it is so foreign to our current automotive market, it is unclear as to whether there will be enough demand for it in the U.S., but only time will tell. For now, if you want to buy a CLA Shooting Brake, you have to go pretty much anywhere that isn’t America. If you want to learn more about the shooting brake design, leave a comment below or travel to Europe to test drive one! We do have the CLA Coupe available, which is more fun to drive, but has less cargo capacity.
