New United States Design

Typically, the G-Class is reserved for luxurious road-faring packages. It is a symbol of wealth and success, especially in the United States and it comes with a 6-figure price tag to go with it. Because of the aggressive look of the SUV, this can be counterintuitive. It looks like it can climb any mountain, so why shouldn’t it be able to? Well the G550 4X4² performs like it looks.

Engine

The G-Class 4X4 has existed in the past, but never in North America. It is a high-performance off-road vehicle and its specifications are matched by no competitor. For example, the G550 4X4² uses the same 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine that is found in the G550, featuring 416 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. This “entry-level” engine jumps the SUV from 0 to 60 in just 5.8 seconds and gives it a top speed of 130 miles per hour. This, in combination with the raised wheels and body, makes the G550 4X4² the perfect vehicle to get stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Raised Suspension

The biggest appeal of the G550 will definitely not be the yellow/green color. It will be the new suspension that turns the G-Class into a monster with a 51.6-degree max approach angle. For comparison, the regular G550 currently has a max approach angle of 30 degrees. The SUV will be available in the Spring of 2017 and could very well increase the popularity in the United States arm over fist.
