2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Wide Body
Much of the beauty and appeal of the G-Class comes from the fact that is outdated. It’s body style has remained unchanged for decades, giving it a classic feel made with brand new material. Imagine being able to by a 2017 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing! That’s what it feels like to buy a new G-Class. It seems crazy, but popularity of the G-Class is still prevalent all over the world. If you are waiting for a new G-Class, we are happy to say the 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class will not feature a body-style change, but it will be a little bit wider. It will also lose some weight and possibly gain some horsepower.
Wider Body Style
From various spy shots seen around the web, it looks as though the 2018 G-Class will be a few inches wider than the current model. This will help immensely with stability on the road, because if you’ve ever driven one, it feels like it wants to be tipped over more than anything in the world. A wider body will also give more traction in the dirt. Typically, making a larger body adds weight, but not in this case.
Weight Loss
Because the G-Class hasn’t been updated since 2012, a lot of the materials used on the body are outdated. By updating this, rumor has it that the G-Class could lose almost 1,000 pounds for the 2018 model. This would also help stability drastically and could turn the G-Class into a modern sports car.
Engine
The engine options likely will not change for 2018. A 4.0L Biturbo V8, a 5.5L Biturbo V8, and a 6.0L Biturbo V12 make up the list of incredible engines to chose from, and they all have more than 400 horsepower.
