What Is Mercedes-Benz AMG® Cylinder Management System?
Making vehicles more efficient while also making them more powerful is a trick that we will never understand. Yet somehow, Mercedes-Benz keeps surprising us with new technologies and updated specifications that make us question reality. What is life? One of the latest tricks to come out of the Mercedes-Benz factory is the AMG® Cylinder Management System, to be available for the second time (SLK55) with the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Sedan. What exactly is Mercedes-AMG® Cylinder Management System?
2017 E63 S Performance Specs
Good question. The new Mercedes-AMG E63 S is powerful. With 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, the E-Class is almost rendered useless on the everyday commute to work. Who wants to constantly be feathering the gas the whole way there? You get foot cramps, you have no fun, and people still look at you because your car is loud. The solution: AMG® Cylinder Management.
Mercedes-Benz AMG® Cylinder Management System cuts power to half of the engine, or four of the cylinders. By only using half of the engine, drivers can now enjoy a friendly commute without any accidental tire spin or damaged ear drums.
How To Activate Cylinder Management
If your Mercedes-Benz is equipped with an AMG® Cylinder Management System, all you have to do to turn it on is put the car in “Comfort” mode. While in “Comfort” mode, half of the engine will be deactivated in between 1,000 and 3,250 RPMs. If the engine speeds jumps above 3,250 RPMs, even for a millisecond, the other half of the engine will fire to life faster than you can blink your eyes (literally).
