Mercedes-Benz produces one of the largest ranges of automobiles in the world. It is so large, in fact, that some of its models overlap fairly evenly, making it difficult and fun to figure out which one is best for you. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLA vs 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA is one comparison where this stands true. The GLA is technically an SUV, but it is compact, low to the ground, and quick like the CLA. Which look do you prefer?
The GLA and the CLA both share one crucial similarity. They are the entry-level models for Mercedes-Benz SUVs and sedans, respectively. They are the most affordable Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the United States and they both come with three identical trim options. These three trim options offer a front- and all-wheel drive efficiency model and a high performance AMG 45 model. They have the same 2.0L turbo I4 engines and they produce the exact same power output.
Space or Efficiency?
It is hard to tell by the pictures, but the GLA is actually a very small SUV. It sits low to the ground like a sedan with a large hatchback. This hatchback, as it turns out, is the GLA's main advantage. With the GLA, you have room for 43.6 cubic feet of cargo space. In the CLA, this number drops to 13.1 cubic feet. Granted, with the seats folded down in the CLA this number will increase, but not all the way to 43.6. Because of this, if you are going to be hauling cargo of really any kind, the GLA is the better value. If you are more interested in performance and efficiency, however, the CLA begins to look more pleasing. It gets better gas mileage both in the city and on the highway, and it also jumps to 60 miles per hour more quickly.
