2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe vs 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe
The GLE Coupe and the GLC Coupe are both products of a Mercedes-Benz name restructuring that better organizes each model by the chassis it is based off of. In the case of these two, you may have guessed they are a fabrication of the C-Class and E-Class respective lineups. Although Mercedes-Benz doesn't market them as such, they qualify as crossover utility vehicles, offering the interior space of an SUV with the performance and style of a coupe or sedan.
There are two distinct differences between these two vehicles. One pertains to size and the other to performance. First, the GLE Coupe is a few inches taller and about half a foot longer than the GLC Coupe. This reflects the relationship between the E-Class and the C-Class very well, but the other difference is performance. The GLE Coupe is based on extreme on- and off-road performance, while the GLC Coupe strives for overall efficiency and style. There is a Mercedes-Benz AMG® GLC 43 available for the GLC Coupe, but the GLE Coupe doesn't even come with a non-AMG® option.
Finance or Adrenaline?
The major difference between these two luxury crossover vehicles stems from the question of power and efficiency. Although the C-Class offers the most in performance on the sedan and coupe level, the GLC Coupe is geared for fuel economy. This may change in the future when the GLC63 S Coupe is introduced, but for now, we will have to look to the GLE Coupe for all of our crossover performance needs. It is a vehicle that is just as capable on pavement as it is on a dirt track, which was demonstrated in the 2015 motion picture Jurassic World. If you are someone who wants to save a few dollars at the pump, then the GLC Coupe is the ride for you. On the contrary, if you are someone who wants to squeeze a few extra smiles out of a large investment, then the GLE Coupe is your only answer.
