If you’re looking for a new sports car, there are two top brands you are probably interested in. Those are likely Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. Both have developed some fantastic cars over the years, but for the 2018 model year, which brand should you go with? Here, we are comparing the 2018 Mercedes-Benz SLC Roadster vs the 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman to help you determine which vehicle has the edge.
Both models have their advantages, but there are some clear and distinct differences between the two as well. For instance, do you like a sunroof in your sports car? Well, you won’t find it with the 718 Cayman, unfortunately, and for some that could be a deal breaker in itself. It does, however, come standard with the SLC Roadster.

Standard | Sunroof | Not available |
2.0-liter I-4 turbocharged | Engine | 2.0-liter H-4 turbocharged |
9-speed automatic | Transmission | 6-speed manual |
Standard | Locking/Limited Slip Differential | Available |
Another dealer breaker for some drivers could be a limited slip differential. The performance gains can be pretty significant, and while it is available on the 718 Cayman, it once again comes standard on the SLC Roadster. And although there are some similarities with the engines between these two, the transmissions are certainly different. If you can’t drive stick, then the SLC Roadster will be your best bet, as the 718 Cayman only comes with a 6-speed manual. Meanwhile, the SLC Roadster has a 9-speed automatic, which some may prefer for performance reasons.
As you can see, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz SLC Roadster has the edge in some key areas in this comparison, but we don’t want you to just take our word for it. Contact us at Mercedes-Benz of Arrowhead and we would be happy to get you behind the wheel to experience this car for yourself.
